Counting emissions isn’t just for carbon nerds anymore.

Whether you’re curious about carbon, knee-deep in a project, or just want to stay ahead of the curve — here's something I keep hearing: "We need to know our emissions — because the market will soon demand it."

And it's true.

The world is shifting. Quietly, but steadily. What used to be optional is fast becoming part of how we do business in agriculture.

Buyers, processors, retailers — even government programs — are moving toward emissions reporting and reductions. And while no one’s officially forcing it yet, there’s a clear direction:

If you want to access premium markets, major supply chains, or future incentives — you’ll need to know your numbers.

But let me be really clear:

This isn’t just about staying compliant. It’s about staying in control.

Because once you know where your emissions are coming from, you can start to:

  • Identify your biggest hotspots

  • Compare reduction options

  • Plan practical changes

  • And yes — decide if you're in a position to earn carbon credits too.

For example, if you’re thinking about registering a carbon project under the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) scheme, you’ll need to show how you’re counting — and reducing — emissions from fertilisers.

That’s why we’re putting emissions accounting front and centre at this year’s National Carbon Farming Conference & Expo. We’re not just talking policy — we’re talking practice.

✅ We’ll unpack what farmers actually need to know
✅ Hear from those already measuring their footprint
✅ Explore how to align emissions work with productivity
✅ And make sure it’s not just another spreadsheet headache!

Because I get it — this stuff can feel like another job on the pile.
But the trick is to turn it from burden to opportunity.

Whether it’s accessing new revenue streams, preparing for sustainability frameworks, or simply getting your farm business fit for the future — understanding your emissions gives you power.

And here’s something else:

🌱 Next week, I’ll be sharing more about the solutions — especially what’s happening with low-emission fertilisers.

New tech, on-farm trials, and Aussie-made innovation are changing how we feed crops and reduce emissions at the same time.

We’ll have experts joining us in Albury to show you what’s real, what’s coming, and how to work out what’s right for you.

So if you’re still wondering whether this whole emissions conversation is worth paying attention to…

Take this as your sign.

It’s not about ticking a box.
It’s about being ready for what’s next — and maybe even leading it.
