An Anthem for Soil
Sometimes data, policy, and technical language can’t capture the heart of what’s really at stake. That’s why I’ve tried something different — music.
Over the past weeks, I’ve been working on a creative project that brings soil to life in song. The result is “Songs of Soil & Carbon” — an anthem that reminds us of something simple yet profound: soil is alive. It breathes, it stores carbon, it grows our food, and when neglected, it cries out in silence.
Why a song? Because soil deserves a voice. Too often, it’s spoken about only in terms of “inputs” and “outputs.” Yet, beneath our feet lies the foundation of agriculture, climate solutions, and ecosystems that sustain life. Music lets us step out of spreadsheets and into feeling. Listen now.
This song is also deeply connected to the themes we’ll be tackling at the 2025 Carbon Farming Conference & Expo. Across three days, we’ll be asking tough questions about carbon farming, soil health, biodiversity, and how to make low-emission farming work in practice. And importantly, we’ll be hearing directly from farmers, scientists, and industry leaders who are already shaping this future.
But alongside all the data and detail, we need symbols that inspire. Songs of Soil & Carbon is my small attempt at that — a rallying call that reminds us why soil matters and why we must protect it.
I’d love your feedback.
