We’re thrilled to announce the first of our keynote speakers for the 2025 National Carbon Farming Conference & Expo:
👉 Professor Karen Hussey, Chair of the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee (ERAC).
For those of us in the carbon farming world, this is a powerful moment.
Karen now heads the committee overseeing the review of the 2021 Soil Carbon Method — a method that underpins hundreds of projects across Australia and has led to the issuance of over 350,000 ACCUs. It’s also the method at the heart of some tension between scientific expectations and real-world project outcomes.
In recent years, many in the soil carbon industry have been bruised by a review process that seemed to question not just data, but intent. Public debate around sequestration rates, scientific thresholds, and method integrity has too often played out in media headlines rather than meaningful conversations.
This conference aims to change that.
At our most recent meetings, I’ve found Karen to be genuinely open — listening deeply and asking the right questions. She understands the interplay between science and practice, and has shown interest in key opportunities for moving forward:
✅ Supporting open dialogue between soil carbon developers, scientists, and regulators
✅ Exploring the idea of a data-sharing platform for collaborative science
✅ Continuing development of Schedule 2 of the method (where much of the practical soil knowledge sits)
Karen will bring the latest insights from the Soil Carbon Method Review to the conference — not just as an update, but as part of a broader effort to build trust and clarity across sectors. Her presence is a signal that the conversation is shifting — from stand-off to collaboration.
As many of you know, this conference has always aimed to bridge sectors: to bring together the farmers, developers, policymakers, and scientists who will shape our low-carbon future. With over 800 soil carbon projects already registered, and major market players on pause pending the review outcome, the stakes are high.
This year’s theme, “Bringing farmers, science, and the market together’ is more relevant than ever.
We’re proud to bring you a program that includes:
🌿 A full day on soil carbon: method updates, science, projects, and real farmer voices
📊 Two sessions on data: its power, its control, and its potential for farmers
📈 New voices on demand signals, low-emissions ag tech, and international developments
🎤 And of course, many more top-tier speakers to be announced soon
If you’ve been waiting for a sign that the conversation is shifting — this is it.
